The Bahia Palace (Palais Bahia) in Marrakech is a 19th-century masterpiece built primarily from the 1860s onward, expanded under Grand Vizier Ba Ahmed between 1894 and 1900.
With roughly 150 rooms organized around multiple inner courtyards and gardens, the palace is celebrated for its intricate zellij tilework, carved stucco, painted cedar wood ceilings, marble floors, and beautiful gardens.
After the 2023 earthquake, parts of the palace and some adjoining structures sustained damage; restoration has been underway, and sections may be under repair.
A guided tour helps you bring the architecture, art, and historical context to life: the stories of power, polygamy, craftsmanship, and the lives of those who lived there.
Tours often combine the palace visit with neighboring historical sites (e.g. the Jewish Quarter / Mellah, Medina alleys, sometimes Saadian Tombs or Ben Youssef Madrasa) to give a richer context to Marrakech’s social, religious, and artistic heritage.
A typical guided visit lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours within the palace (sometimes more, depending on depth), plus walking time to/from meeting points and any associated stops.
